Solo Royal Rumble – Get Ready to RUMBLE!!!!
The Solo Royal Rumble will feature an all skate warm up and three exciting rounds of solo jazz challenges!
1st Round: Big Apple Contest
Just like back in the day, our MC will call out some classic solo jazz moves and competitors have to dance them! This is a bit more like the traditional Big Apple Contest, rather than the Big Apple routine. If you don’t know the moves you can make it up or take inspiration from those around you. This round is all about repertoire, confidence and panache, and judges will tap you out if you don’t make it to the next round. Competitors dance to one song, approx 200-240 bpm
2nd Round: Trio of Solo
Time to work as a team and take inspiration from those around you! The remaining competitors will be randomly assorted into small groups in a triangular formation. Each group will have a spotlight to showcase their team. If you’re at the point of the triangle facing forward you lead the group and your team has to follow along in unison. Each time the person at the front changes to face a different direction a new leader of the group takes charge – so there are three possible leaders in the group.
Groups will be judged on their ability to work as a team, overall entertainment and performance, as well as quality of movement and creativity.
Two or three out of the four teams will be chosen to go to the final round.
This round will be one song with up to 4 spotlights from the different groups,16x 8s per group, standard jazz phrasing, approx 200-240 bpm
3rd Round: Duet Battle
The final battle round! You’ll be paired up with another dancer and you will compete the finale as a duo! Take it in turns to battle the other duos and out-dance each other, playing to your strengths as an individual and as a partnership. This round finishes with a final all-skate with your partner.
You’ll be judged on your teamwork, overall entertainment and performance, as well as quality of movement and creativity.
The judges will rate their favourite pairs in order and the winners will be announced at the end of the night.
This round will consist of spotlights of 8x (8x8s) per pair, plus approx 16 x 8s of all skate, standard jazz phrasing, approx 200-240 bpm
Winners get a full pass to the London Throwdown 2017.
